Felsenkloster Montserrat in Katalonien für Klassenfahrten und Gruppenreisen

 

Nordwestlich von Barcelona erstreckt sich eine kilometerlange Gebirgskette, die eine beschaulich-ruhige Sehenswürdigkeit beherbergt: das Felsenkloster Montserrat. Die Klosteranlage liegt landschaftlich reizvoll auf einem Hügel (über 700 Meter) und wird von hochaufragenden Felsformationen umgeben. Seit dem 11. Jahrhundert leben hier Benediktiner-Mönche und aktuell arbeiten 80 Mönche in Montserrat. Im Laufe der Jahrhunderte entstand eine umfangreiche Kloster-Anlage, die an ein kleines Bergdorf erinnert. Als Wallfahrtsstätte ist Montserrat seit dem frühen Mittelalter bekannt, da hier im 9. Jahrhundert die Jungfrau Maria in einer Höhle erschien. 

Die heutige Klosteranlage stammt größten Teils aus dem 19. Jahrhundert und ist im Stile der Neorenaissance erbaut. Über einen kleinen Torbogen gelangt man auf die Anlage und erkennt sogleich den achteckigen Glockenturm. Nebenan gibt es sehenswerte Überbleibsel aus dem Mittelalter: 2 Flügel vom gotischen Kreuzgang sind mit Spitzbögen und schlanken Stützen erhalten geblieben. Das wichtigste Gebäude ist die Basilika aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, da hier im Hauptaltar die Mariendarstellung aus dem 12. Jahrhundert aufbewahrt wird. Die einschiffige Klosterkirche hat einen prächtigen Innenraum mit Arkaden aus der Renaissance-Epoche und einem gotischen Chor. Auch die Empore wirkt mit den Kapitellen und verzierten Säulen sehr eindrucksvoll und die vielen Wandbilder und Reliefs erscheinen sehr feierlich. Damit ist der gesamte Raum auf den Zweck der Marienverehrung ausgerichtet.

In dem Museum, einem modernen Flachbau, wird eine vielfältige Sammlung präsentiert und Besucher können hier über 1 000 Kunstwerke besichtigen. Von der Gemäldesammlung berühmter Renaissance-Künstler wie Caravaggio oder El Greco bis zu den katalanischen Künstlern ist die Bandbreite sehr groß.

Museum of Montserrat (Groups)

Located in a building designed by the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch, the Museum of Montserrat (MDM) is home to one of the country's most important art collections. Containing works by Caravaggio, El Greco, Rusiñol, Casas, Picasso, Dali, Monet and others, it also has a valuable collection of the Archaeology of the Ancient World with archaeological remains from the Near East (ancient Persia, Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Holy Land...).

The permanent collections are joined by temporary exhibitions, located in two galleries expressly intended for these purposes: Sala Daura and the Espai d’Art Pere Pruna. The MDM was declared a National Museum of Spain in 2006.

The new, completely renovated Montserrat audiovisual space is the result of the monastery's desire to provide more information to the thousands of pilgrims and visitors who want to know what Montserrat is and what it means. The exhibition is based on three fundamental areas: the mountain, the monastery and the sanctuary.

Montserrat comes alive in all its complexity and richness in an exhibition tracing a route using different innovative museum design concepts and the latest audiovisual techniques to give the visitor an inside look at the mountain, its history, the monastery and a vivid sense of the monastic lifestyle.

The route ends on an emotional high note, in which the Boy's Choir plays a key role.

Die Zahnradbahn von Montserrat ist ein öffentliches Verkehrsmittel, das einen ungehinderten Genuss der Bergwelt erlaubt und einen Höhenunterschied von mehr als 600 Metern überwindet. Die Strecke von etwas mehr als fünf Kilometern verbindet den Bahnhof der Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat in Monistrol de Montserrat mit dem Kloster.

Die Fahrt dauert 15 Minuten und die Zahnradbahn fährt normalerweise alle 20 Minuten in Monistrol Vila ab.
